Premium plugin
AI Commands is not included in the standard Redactor package. Purchase it on the pricing page — with Redactor, or later as a separate plugin from your account — then download the package and enable the ai plugin.
AI Commands is the lightweight way to put AI on the Redactor toolbar. One plugin, a focused set of buttons — improve, simplify, fix mistakes, change tone, translate, and more — available from the toolbar, context bar, and addbar.

There is no big assistant menu and no review panel. Pick a command, get a rewrite, apply it. Ideal when you want AI “one click away” without the full Assistant product.
For endpoints, action lists, and request shape, see the AI Commands plugin reference. For the full writing suite (grouped actions, check writing, reports), see Using the AI assistant.
Main features#
Named rewrite actions. The usual edit intents are ready-made buttons — no prompt engineering for everyday changes.
Toolbar and context bar. Commands sit next to formatting and block tools, so AI stays in the same editing flow.
Same backend contract as the Assistant. You own the API. Swap models or policies on the server without changing the editor UI.
Optional image generation. Point ai.image.url at your endpoint to generate images from the addbar.
What authors can do#
Typical presets include:
- Improve or simplify the selection
- Fix mistakes
- Make the text shorter or more detailed
- Complete a sentence
- Translate into another language
- Change tone (formal, friendly, assertive, …)
- Ask AI with a free-form prompt
Select content (or start from an empty block where the action allows it), run a command, and accept the result when it looks right.
Assistant vs AI Commands#
| AI Commands | AI Assistant | |
|---|---|---|
| UI | Flat toolbar / context actions | Grouped AI dropdown + reports |
| Review issues panel | — | Yes (e.g. Check writing) |
| Insight reports | — | Yes (summary, key points, …) |
| Best for | Quick rewrites in a lean UI | Full editorial AI workflow |
Start with AI Commands; move to the Assistant when authors need review-style feedback and longer-form insights in the same editor.
